VastServer is a virtual world server that adds realtime multiuser interaction to any VastPark environment.

The philosopy behind VastServer is that virtual worlds need to become as easy to run as websites are today. And additionally, they need to support being run in an ad hoc manner to suit any time a user suddenly needs to meet and interact with others online. We suggest that virtual worlds will become like appliances. This is something websites are less likely to achieve (Maybe Web 4.0 ^_^).

Both the binary and source code versions will be available for download free of charge. The VastServer project is licensed under the AGPL and you are free to deploy, extend and distribute VastPark however you like within the terms of the AGPL. Please give back bug fixes and code improvements to the community so we all benefit. If you want to obtain a commercial license, please contact the VastPark team.

It is possible for you to run a server and have multiple client sites on the same server, and then give clients private FTP access to update their world. Conceptually, the way it works is similar to an Apache server.

- IMML (Interactive Media Markup Language) is a modern XML schema based markup language for describing highly interactive virtual worlds. It is being developed as an open specification, enabling anyone to create software that reads or writes it.
